Verified ParticipantAwesome thanks for the tips, it’s multiple dogs and neighbors and they’ve all met, except for one. We explained our dog’s anxiety and introduced the dogs (even though theirs have anxiety too) but it’s getting better as we all learn to manage staggering walks and going out at different times as not to stir them up! Luckily we’re all (very friendly) dog people (except for the one who we all haven’t met yet) so we are understanding and empathetic of each other’s doggy barking situation. Will check out the articles, those are super helpful thank you!

Verified ParticipantThanks for the quick response and tips! Yes this morning I put a barrier between them so they couldn’t see each other which helped. After my dog gobbled up his food I held him in my arms and petted him to let the other one finish. The other dog kept looking back at us (tried to stay out of his sight) and that seemed to help. I also practiced “stay” commands with my dog and the positive reinforcement was helpful (then rewarded both with treats). We’re getting there. Last night I gave them each their bones, but of course they wanted the other one’s bone. Thankfully they were both meat-free (my dog is allergic) so switching it up might be part of the excitement (in addition to trading/taunting each other entertainment ha!)

Verified ParticipantI think so! Mine does this too, I always say he’s chasing squirrels! Mine will also make little whimpering sounds too, it’s the cutest!

Verified ParticipantHey there, yes this is a controversial topic among dog trainers. Some say they are safe (when properly trained on how to use them) but other trainers stick to more positive reinforcement methods such as praise and reward (vs corrective behavior). It also depends on the size and breed of your dog. You shouldn’t use prong collars on smaller dogs or ones with sensitive necks such as pugs or Cavaliers. We had a trainer that tried to use one with our Cav and was skeptical too, we ultimately didn’t end up using them (and feel like they did more physical and mental harm than good). That’s just my two cents though! Hope that helps!

Verified ParticipantDid you read the fine print and/or look at exclusions and waiting periods? That could be a factor to consider. Also how quickly do you need reimbursement? Embrace is known for quick turn around to get you paid back for vet bills if that’s important to you!

Verified ParticipantThat’s a good question! I’ve flown through Atlanta, Charlotte, Greenville SC, Greensboro NC and DCA and Dulles with my dogs, they all seem to be super dog-friendly, but I’ve also heard good things about Denver and LA being super-pet friendly too (makes sense since they are generally dog-friendly cities too). The smaller the airport, the less likely there will be amenities like a pet-relief area (or room with sprayers to hose down the floor) but also the smaller airports tend to be easier to get in/out with less walking with your dog and seem to have more grassy areas than bigger hubs which are crowded with cars in the drop off/pick up area.
