I’ve been researching Akitas and noticed that there are two distinct types: the American Akita and the Japanese Akita. While they share a common ancestry, it seems like they have developed some significant differences over time.
Can anyone break down the key differences between these two breeds? Specifically, how do they differ in appearance, temperament, and breed standards? I’ve read that American Akitas tend to be larger and more muscular, while Japanese Akitas have a more fox-like face and a narrower build. Are there other notable physical distinctions?
If anyone owns one or has experience with both, I’d love to hear your insights on what sets them apart!
We’ve got an article for that! Check out this detailed comparison of the Japanese vs American Akita.
