What are your best tips for dog-proofing your yard in spring? My pup’s suddenly super interested in digging, chasing squirrels, and testing every corner of the fence now that the weather’s nice. I want to make sure the yard is safe and secure before things really start blooming. Any hacks or must-dos?
My dog loves to dig, especially near the fence line, so one thing that’s worked for us is burying chicken wire a few inches down and covering it with dirt and rocks. It’s safe for their paws but uncomfortable enough to stop them from digging any deeper. As far as digging holes in the yard, I haven’t quite figured that one out yet.
Each spring, I also walk the yard to check for weak spots like loose boards, gaps, or anything that shifted over the winter. And since mine’s also a squirrel-chaser, I make sure there’s nothing nearby he could use as a launchpad. Those squirrels just never seem to stay out of the yard, and my guy can’t resist trying to catch them. I’d love some advice on how to keep squirrels out of my yard!
