I adopted an older dog who barks like crazy at almost everything. I’ve had her for several months and have tried to stop it, but it’s not working. What can I do to stop her from barking so much?
I would imagine breaking this habit in an older dog would be difficult. Have you considered a trainer?
I’ve thought about it, but they’re so expensive. Is there a cheaper option that you know of?
@Beachgal I hear you. I just got a new pup and am looking into training. It’s definitely an investment, and might not be worth the cost and stress for an older dog. I don’t know what you’ve tried so far, but it seems like there’s two options. The first—distract your dog when they bark. Provide toys, puzzles, exercise, or some other form of distraction to reduce barking. Option two—use a deterrent. There are a variety of deterrent collars to encourage your dog to stop barking. You can also put a muzzle on your dog as soon as they start barking. Your dog will learn that barking equals the muzzle and will eventually stop (hopefully).
