Is fresh food really worth it for a picky dog?

I am caring for the dog of a deceased family member. The dog is older, about 9 or 10. Her owner had her on a fresh-food diet because she is a bit picky with her food, but I can’t afford that. I’ve been giving her premium kibble from the pet store, but she doesn’t really like it. I have seen fridges with pet food at the grocery and pet store, but I’ve never tried them. I’m wondering if maybe I should try some of those options mixed in with her kibble. How different is fresh food from kibble, and are there any affordable options? I won’t be keeping her long-term, but she will be with me for a few months until her new home is ready to take her. I want to be sure she is healthy and eating well, but fresh food seems really expensive. Is it worth the extra money?

I switched my picky eater dog to fresh food. It’s helped with her stinky poops and coat appearance. I’d say she has more energy, too. She definitely likes the taste more.
