Is there much of a difference between American and English Cocker Spaniels? My mom is thinking about getting one and she’s asked me to research the differences. Which one is more sporty / needs more exercise? Is the English Cocker Spaniel rare in the U.S.?
Hi Rach, They’re both fantastic breeds and are similar in some ways in their happy, easy-to-please temperament. First off (not surprising), English Cocker Spaniels aren’t nearly as popular in the U.S. as American Cocker Spaniels. But the preference comes down to each breed’s characteristics. In terms of activity, generally English Cocker Spaniels are more active and need more exercise than their American counterparts. They’re also larger than the American breed.
