My pup loves plushies but chews through them super quickly. We have certain plush toys that he gets to play with while monitored (he is redirected to a rope toy when he starts to tug the fabric too hard), but are there any plush-style dog toys that I can give him during unsupervised playtime? Most don’t even last an hour.
I’ve seen some good reviews about Tuffy dog toys. The brand has a “tuffscale,” with 5 being strong and 10 being mega-strength.
Other options are DURA FORCE, Fluff & Tuff, and Kong.
Hey @Gus Gus! My pup also loves plushies. I have made his plushies special by having a scheduled playtime with his favorites. After our morning walk and meal, we have playtime with Rio’s plushies. It’s nice because I can sip my coffee while he squeaks, tosses, shakes, and fetches his plush toys. When he starts to chew the toy, I will redirect him to a rope toy or Benebone and put the plush toy away. This has significantly cut down on his plushie destruction, as he knows that ripping up the plush toy will result in it being taken away. This also makes his plush toys even more special; he excitedly waits by the “toy closet” each morning for playtime with mom.
So many great options! I’ve only used Kong out of all the brands listed so far, so I’ll definitely give the others a try. I’ll keep up with the redirection technique as well… maybe it will work better if I’m more consistent. 🤞
Oh yeah… my dog tore his KONG plush toy to shreds in minutes (RIP Mr. Alligator)
