I want to get pet insurance for my newly adopted dog, but I want to get some feedback from actual pet owners. She has no pre-existing conditions and has a wellness visit annually. My questions:

• What insurance company do you use, and what’s your experience?
• How has the claims process gone?
• Do they actually cover what they say they will?
• Is there something your policy excludes that you wish it covered?

I have a 10-year-old Pitbull mix who has been insured with Pets Best for 5 years. Luckily, she has been mostly healthy, so we have not had any big claims. However, we did file a claim and were reimbursed within about 3 weeks when she broke her tail when it got stuck in the fence. This was a little longer than we expected it to take, but it also arrived before our credit card bill was due, so it all worked out. They did cover it with no issues.

• I use Figo to insure my 10-year-old Coonhound mix.
• I’ve filed several claims, all covered and reimbursed within a few days.
• Yes, I’ve been pleased with the coverage. Everything I’ve expected to be covered has been so far.
• I haven’t run into an instance yet where I wish my policy covered something that is excluded.
