My dog recently started rolling in poop. Not his own poop, but other animal’s poop he finds outside. This is not something I can let happen. I’ve been very careful not to let him do it after the first couple of times, but I cannot quite get the stinky smell off him. I have given him several baths with oatmeal dog shampoo and brushed his teeth, but there is still a faint odor of poo. How can I get this poopy smell off him for good?

Try a vinegar rinse or enzymatic shampoo.

You are going to need a few baths to get the smell out fully. My pup does this sometimes. I first give him a warm bath with baking soda. Then, a repeat bath with oatmeal dog shampoo. For really bad smells, I’ve used a paste of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap. This leaves the coat feeling dry but gets the poop smell out.

Thanks for the suggestions. Thankfully he has stopped doing this so much, and I have also started really scouting out the area I let him walk and play for any poo first. Both vinegar and the baking soda paste worked. I also like the oatmeal shampoo; it keeps his coat soft and smells nice.
