What are the best airports for flying with dogs or pets? Based on amenities like pet relief areas, access to green/outdoor space etc? I know some are better than others. I’ve been mostly on short haul flights with my dog but considering a longer trip with him and considering what airports are most accommodating for dogs is possibly a factor in where we decide to go. Thanks!
That’s a good question! I’ve flown through Atlanta, Charlotte, Greenville SC, Greensboro NC and DCA and Dulles with my dogs, they all seem to be super dog-friendly, but I’ve also heard good things about Denver and LA being super-pet friendly too (makes sense since they are generally dog-friendly cities too). The smaller the airport, the less likely there will be amenities like a pet-relief area (or room with sprayers to hose down the floor) but also the smaller airports tend to be easier to get in/out with less walking with your dog and seem to have more grassy areas than bigger hubs which are crowded with cars in the drop off/pick up area.
We just flew through CLT and on the way out there was the coolest pet relief area: a patch of artificial grass with a fire hydrant in the center lol. Wish I had taken a photo to share!
We flew through ATL airport in Atlanta, and they have the most pet relief areas than any other airport in the U.S. with seven and two outdoor dog parks outside of security. They are technically to provide relief for service animals with their human companions but dogs of any kind are welcome to use and each one has pet supplies (like poop bags), concrete floors and grassy turf areas. They even have ground-level drinking fountains and automated entry doors to make them ADA compliant! Super impressive!
