I’ve been struggling with having perfect green grass versus having a more “natural” lawn without chemicals that could harm my pups. The science on this (from my internet research) seems spurious.

What do people in this forum think of glyphosate products (for selective weed treatments in lawns) and their effect on dogs and humans?

There are some studies, including one analyzing the link between household chemicals and CML (Canine Malignant Lyphoma) (National Library of Medicine) that indicate that herbicides in particular (vs. say pesticides, flea & tick treatments, rodenticides, etc.) could be harmful to pets. The long-term effects could potentially be more damaging to pets than humans because of their susceptibility to certain forms of cancer, smaller size, increased yard activity (and thereby exposure), etc.

We have an article that further examines the safety and effects of glyphosate-containing products (like Roundup) on dogs, as well as a comparison of the top pet-safe lawn fertilizers.
