I think my older dog may have some joint pain. He’s not jumping up on furniture as easily as he usually does. Are human pain meds like Tylenol and Ibuprofen okay for my pup?

No, any over-the-counter pain medicine containing acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) or ibuprofen is not safe for dogs. These medications can cause serious GI issues and can be fatal for some dogs.

For joint pain, we recommend giving your dog a joint supplement. You can learn about the best options in our joint supplement article. Be sure to talk to your vet before giving any new medication to your dog.

I agree with the suggestion first to seek out an over-the-counter joint supplement. If it appears the pain is still there, talk to your vet because there are many prescription pain relief options for dogs, including Aspirin and Carprofen.

I might suggest CBD oil. I use that for my dog to help with pain, and it really seems to help her.
