I’m a new dog parent and have a young mixed-breed dog. I’m unsure of her exact age. We rescued her from a shelter, but they guess she’s around 1. Is it worth getting pet insurance for her? She’s in good health, and I’ve heard mixed breeds are less likely to have health issues than purebred dogs. Do you have any suggestions about whether my dog needs it or not?

I’m no expert, but I reckon insurance for your dog is definitely worth it. You never know what’s in the future, and all dogs are at risk of illness, disease, injuries, etc whether they’re mixed or pure breeds. She might be in good health now, but that can change. And I think most insurance companies don’t cover pre-existing conditions so it’s always best to get a policy in place while they are fit and healthy. My dog was always healthy, but she got hit by a car when she bolted out our gate and needed emergency surgery. I have no idea how I would have paid for that if we didn’t have insurance !!

Pet insurance is worth it if you can afford the monthly premium and it covers what you need/want. Unfortunately, mixed breeds are still vulnerable to accidents and illnesses, so I recommend pet insurance.
