My dog seems to be having some skin problems. Lots of itching and flaky skin. Also, redness on his belly. I am not sure what it is, and I am wondering if I get pet insurance, would they pay for me to get him allergy tested at my vet?
Great question! Unfortunately, because your dog is already experiencing symptoms, allergies will most likely be determined a pre-existing condition and will be ineligible for coverage from most insurers. However, suppose your dog has not been having allergy symptoms, is insured, and all waiting periods have passed. In that case, pet insurance may cover the cost of allergy testing if a veterinarian requests it. I’ve written an article that goes into more detail on whether pet insurance covers allergies and allergy testing, which you can learn about.
