*Waiting periods for California, Delaware, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, and Washington are as follows:

  • Accidents - 0 days
  • Illnesses - 14 days
  • Cruciate Ligament Conditions - 30 days
  • Routine Care - 0 days

Figo offers a shorter waiting period for accidents. However, Embrace provides coverage for exam fees at no extra fee. Embrace’s underwriter has a slightly better A.M. Best rating (a measurement of financial stability). Both are good ratings, but Embrace’s is a little bit better.

Another key deciding factor for you may be the age restrictions attached to Embrace, which doesn’t enroll pets older than 14 years old for illness coverage. However, if you’re enrolling your pet before their 14th birthday, this won’t be a concern since they will continue coverage for your older dog so long as your policy and premium payments are current when your pet turns 14.

Other than these slight differences, we feel both companies offer extensive coverage with reasonable waiting periods.

Customer Service & Reputation

Customer Service & Reputation Tie

For both Figo and Embrace, most negative reviews relate to portions of or entire claims going unpaid. These claims are usually for pre-existing conditions (which are excluded from all pet insurance coverage), ineligible conditions or illnesses (such as wellness-related claims), or medical treatment during the waiting period. Customers also expect a more significant portion of their claim to be reimbursed, but claim reimbursement is based on the deductible, reimbursement percentage, and payout limit they select upon enrollment.

This is why you should read your pet insurance policy entirely, so you understand what is and isn’t covered before buying. We don’t fault Figo or Embrace for these complaints because they exist for all insurance providers.

To avoid this disconnect, we aim to educate pet parents on all the ins and outs of pet insurance before they purchase. Then, should an emergency arise, they fully understand what is not covered by their policy. Figo and Embrace still have excellent customer service reviews and are responsive to their customers’ needs.

Claim Processing

Claim Processing Winner

Figo averages a three-day claim process, with about 50% closed within 24 hours. On the other hand, Embrace pays most of its claims within five days.

Both companies have a history of processing claims in a timely fashion, with Figo having a slightly faster record. So we declare Figo the winner of this category.

Price Of Policy

Price Of Policy Winner

Figo requires a one-time fee of $15 and a $2 transaction fee, while Embrace has a $25 one-time fee and a $1 transaction fee per month. Both companies will omit the transaction fee if you opt to pay annually instead of monthly but the one-time fee is to cover the cost of new enrollment, so it is unlikely to be waived by either provider unless you live in a state that does not allow this charge.

Your premium price quote is based on your pet’s details (age, breed, location, etc.). We recommend obtaining quotes from each company for your specific pet. You can also visit our pet insurance comparison quotes to see a few sample prices we’ve gathered.

Figo almost always came out less expensive than Embrace in the quotes we’ve run. However, remember that it’s always best to get quotes for your specific dog to compare what pet insurance could cost you. You can use our pet insurance quote form to get multiple company quotes when you complete this one quick form.

Additionally, both companies have annual deductibles, which is important if your pet experiences multiple accidents or illnesses during the policy period (one year).

Figo is one of the only providers we’ve reviewed to offer a 100% reimbursement option. This is a big differentiator from other pet insurance companies and may be what some pet parents want to provide more expense coverage at the time of an emergency. Because of this, Figo comes out on top.
