I totally feel you. Spring rolls around, and suddenly, my dog’s bouncing off the walls with all the extra energy! I try to ease into it by gradually increasing the length of our walks over a week or two, especially if we’ve been more low-key during the winter. We’ll add some light jogging or fetch sessions, but I will alternate with slower-paced days so she doesn’t get too sore or overstimulated.

I also like mixing it up with new activities like trail walks, a little agility stuff in the backyard, or even sniffer walks. It keeps things interesting without pushing too hard.

I think this one depends on the dog, but I like to make my dogs puzzle toys with old egg cartons. I use the cardboard ones and cut off any rough patches. Then, I fill the sections with treats, cheese, peanut butter, and kibble. I even add bits of crumpled paper to make it harder to get through. One of my dogs takes a while to get through this; the other tears right through everything, so it depends on the dog. Either way, it’s a fun, cheap toy to make. I also do this with a cardboard box.

I have also seen this done with a muffin tin and tennis balls. Or you can drill a little hole in a tennis ball and fill it with kibble. It will keep your dog active for a good while. If you’ve got the room, a kiddle pool filled with plastic balls and hidden treats can be a fun and fairly long-lasting activity.

One of my dogs, Buddy, is a Beagle. He is super high-energy and very clingy. He is also a very loud and persistent barker. Buddy is very sweet and always curious. He loves to play and gets along with kids. Buddy is very stubborn, so sometimes, it can be a challenge to get him to listen. He will respond to training but sometimes just plain ignores me. Beagles are great, but you have to have a lot of patience and time to give them. I hope this helps!

When my kids were little, they got really into learning about fire prevention. As they learned to “Stop, Drop, and Roll,” the dog did, too. It was the funniest thing because all you had to say was “Stop,” and he would drop and roll. We did not try to train him to do this; he just copied the kids and picked it up.

Oh, how fun! My mom’s dog is named Lucy, and my brother’s dog is named Ollie. I guess they are popular!

My dog likes to play with grasshoppers, but I try not to let him eat them. It’s never fun afterward, and he usually gets a bit sick to his stomach.

I have had Care Credit for a long time. It’s a credit card you can use for vet care and a few other things like dental care. It is a helpful line of credit if you don’t have cash on hand or insurance to help pay for emergencies. However, in my experience, the interest rate was high, and they were very demanding about payments. But I haven’t used them for about five years, so maybe that changed. I’d be sure to read all the fine print before using it.

I LOVE Halloween names. As a huge Hocus Pocus fan, I suggest Winifred, Sarah, and Mary for a girl. And Thackery Binx for a boy. You could go silly with it and name them after candy like Almond Joy or Candy Corn.

My senior dog sleeps about 18 hours a day. She’s 13 and gets up to eat, go for a short walk, and go to the bathroom. But at this point, she spends most of the day asleep.

I am partial to bulldog breeds and mixes. French Bulldogs are super cute, very affectionate, and don’t get too big. Plus, they don’t need a ton of exercise. My grandma just loves her Frenchie, and they are the best of friends. The pup has been a great companion to my grammy and helps get her out of the house a bit for daily walks. I’m so glad she got her.

You are going to need a few baths to get the smell out fully. My pup does this sometimes. I first give him a warm bath with baking soda. Then, a repeat bath with oatmeal dog shampoo. For really bad smells, I’ve used a paste of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap. This leaves the coat feeling dry but gets the poop smell out.

I have used an LED light-up collar for my pup at night. It is super bright and makes it very easy to see him at night. I got it because he is dark-colored, and I could never see him at night. This has helped me keep track of him when he goes out in the yard at night. I tried a few glow-in-the-dark collars but found that they lost charge very quickly. The LED collar works excellently so far.

Thanks, Alex. I appreciate your response. I spoke with my vet, and we decided to try Benadryl and one of those oatmeal soaks to see if that helps.

I appreciate your response. I should try keeping her on a leash when people are here. That might help. I hate feeling like I am locking her up, but as you mentioned, contractors and repair people need to be able to do their work and feel safe and comfortable. A few weeks ago, she scared a plumber. He would not come inside until I made sure she was somewhere he couldn’t see or hear her. He said he had a bad experience with one dog and now won’t even go inside if a dog seems at all aggressive. Mine is not aggressive, but she has a big bark. So that was a very embarrassing situation. It made me feel like I have an out-of-control dog. All dogs bark. Mine just likes to do it more than others. I guess it’s just something I have to manage, and I hope people are understanding.

Thanks. I’ve purchased a couple and will let you know if any of them work for us.
