Chicken and rice for dog with upset tummy

My dog threw up a lot last night. This morning he went to the door (like he always does when he needs to go potty) and when he got outside he started dry heaving and eventually threw up again. This time he ate it before it could even hit the ground. I can hear his tummy gurgling some too. I’ve heard of giving boiled chicken and rice for dogs with upset tummies, but what’s the appropriate rations?

Please read the book, Dog Food Logic: Making Smart Decisions for Your Dog in an Age of Too Many Choices, by Linda P. Case! She doesn’t tell you which brands to feed your dog, rather, she gives you the tools and information you need to make an informed choice. She not only covers the facts and myths about canine nutrition, but she addresses the entire pet food industry, from how pet food companies use cognitive biases in marketing to what packaging claims and labels can really tell you, to how food is sourced, manufactured and distributed, to industry regulations. And if you think it’s a heavy read, think again. Her writing is frank and down-to-earth, and she has a sense of humor to boot. You can also check out her blog, . (p.s. I’ve been feeding my dog Fromm’s for 3 1/2 years and haven’t had a problem yet)

I have a 7 to 8 week old golden Retriever/Lab mix puppy that showed up on our doorstep about 2 weeks ago. We took him to the vet because he had worms pretty bad. The vet gave us some Panacur and we have been watching his poop and after about a week after medication we haven seen anymore worms. However he seems to have a issue with diarrhea back and forth. I got the 4Health brand puppy food and that seems to upset his stomach too and causing him to have diarrhea. So this morning we feed him some boiled chicken breast meat. We are trying to figure out what type of dry food would be best for him since he seems to have a sensitive stomach after the worm issues

I am concerned about what to feed my dog every time I have to switch feeds because she’ll start to throw up and then I looked the food up and I find out it’s under a class action lawsuit for some kind of pesticide or whatever I went through it with Blue Buffalo I went through it was Rachel Ray I went through is all pedigree dog food the best she was doing believe it or not was on Purina Puppy Chow which I’ve never wanted to give it to hug but my mother’s dogs or large and that is what she fed them and they were never sick why are these pet food companies coming up with so much poisonous food? I wouldn’t have even known that Rachael Ray was having a problem with her food due to pesticides except I looked it up after my dog started to throw up nobody tells you this they leave it on the Shelf I returned it and they said you can go buy something else at the same price I said well I don’t even know what to buy anymore? I don’t know if my dog sick where the foods poisonous Blue Buffalo is not cheap that’s still on on the shelves dogs are sick from that and there’s a course class action suit how does a person know when she walks in to look at dog food and there’s 200 brands they’re very expensive so of course you want to give them the best and they’re the ones that are basically under lawsuit for pesticides? Also I always feed my dog dog food that has no wheat soy and at this point I can’t remember the third thing for some reason but it’s listed on any bag that doesn’t have those things in it. I would appreciate if you would remark on this because I have been wondering for a long time? I’m afraid I’m chilling my dog by what I feed her no matter how much money I spend.

We suggest speaking with your vet about your dog’s specific dietary needs. They will know what food is best for your dog since they know your dog’s specifics.
No Bs.
Pardon me for being frank, but that sounds like a general cop-out.

Sorry you feel that way. I answered that way because I am not a licensed vet and do not want to give inappropriate advice. The last thing I would want to do is recommend the wrong thing and the dog become ill or worse. If me suggesting others to contact their licensed veterinarian is a cop-out, then I’m ok with that because the vet is more knowledgable in their dog’s health than I am.

My dog is sick upset stomach throwing up a couple of times hasn’t eaten today at all drank a lot of water earlier today but nothing since. About a month ago the same thing happened to her, so I gave her boiled chicken. She will not eat rice any other things you can suggest??

We’ve heard of pet parents giving their dogs plain canned pumpkin to help with an upset stomach. Start with 1-4 tablespoons depending on your dog’s size (less for smaller dogs, more for larger dogs). If it continues, take your dog to the vet. Keep us posted please. We hope she gets better soon!

Oh no! Hopefully your dog gets to feeling better soon! Cook up some rice and boil some chicken. We suggest starting with a half cup of rice and 4 ounces (about 1/2 a chicken breast); however, the portion can be larger or smaller depending on the dog. After the chicken is cooked, tear it into smaller pieces and mix it in with the cooked rice. It’s important that you do not season anything. Make sure he is drinking plenty of water. If he isn’t, add some water to the chicken and rice mixture to get him drinking again.

Mine is doing the same thing but it just started yesterday. He was actually raised on Chix, rice, green beans and carrots. It’s undigested when he throws up. Seems to be doing ok, but he acts like he is starving all the time and he inhales his food. Please help. He is a rescue and I love this puppy so much.

I’m so sorry Cherri. Are you currently feeding him the chicken and rice? Canned pumpkin also tends to help a pup’s upset tummy. Mix 1/4 cup in with the chicken and rice. Is he drinking his water still?
